Considering what has happened to some of the athletes who have wound up on the cover of the "Madden NFL" video games, there might be some trepidation among Pittsburgh Steelers fans.

EA Sports has announced the nine finalists to appear on the cover of Madden NFL 10 video game and will announce the winner sometime Friday. One of the finalists is Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.

The other finalist include Colts QB Peyton Manning, Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, Chiefs QB Matt Cassel, Cowboys LB DeMarcus Ware, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, Giants RB Brandon Jacobs, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson and Ravens S Ed Reed.

Bruce Ciskie of FANHOUSE.com wrote that he thinks the choice is an easy one. "I would be shocked if Polamalu and his wild hair weren't the choice," he said. "Not only is he one of the best players in the NFL, but he'll also make a great representative for the game. He's very recognizable among the younger demographic EA targets with these games."

As NFL fans know, some past winners have been injured the year they have appeared on the cover, establishing pretty good evidence of a Madden jinx.

According to a release by EA Sports that ran in Thursday's Sports Business Daily, "Madden NFL 10" will kick off the season with the Madden NFL 10 Draft Experience exclusively at MaddenNFL.easports.com Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Web site will feature a live, streaming draft analysis show produced from Madden NFL headquarters in Orlando that will be co-hosted by CBS' Shannon Sharpe.

The show will feature several interactive elements, including live call-ins from Bears RB Matt Forte and Eagles WR DeSean Jackson, and commentary from draft correspondents in N.Y.

So, we all agree it should be Ed Reed, right?

If Troy or Ben get it, my stance will be that the Madden curse was only alive when Madden was actively working, covering NFL games. Now that he is retired, the curse will retire with him. That is my story, and I am sticking to it.
