Steelers Trade Big Ben for Cutler!!

But, on a related note, seeing Cutler is "officially" on the trading block I read the article on ESPN and they had an interesting stat.....

When the Broncos hold the opposing team to fewer than 21 points, Cutler is 13-1.

When they hold the opposing team to more than 21 points, Cutler is 4-19 (.173)

So, that got me thinking, What's Ben's numbers here?

When the opposing team scores more than 21 points, Ben is 11-20 (.354).

Fewer than 21 points....whatever the rest is, didn't write those numbers down.

Anyway, another thing I came across in thinking of this.....you can watch all the highlights from Ben's rookie season (and every season for that matter) over at NFL.com. And you can download them if you are using Firefox web browser and have the add on "Download Helper", as I have done and made the new .gif below (from the Iggles highlights)

Oh, no, I think you miss read. It has nothing to do with the article.

There were 31 games with 21+ scored against us (including playoffs) Ben's record is 11-20 in those games.

The numbers I didn't write down was his record in all those other games. Off the top of my head I don't know what his over all record is (53 wins or something and no idea how many losses).

Just remove 11 wins and 20 losses from that overall record and you have his record in games under 21 points. I.E. the "numbers I didn't write down"

Cutler is halfway through the six-year, $48 million contract he signed as the 11th overall pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2006 draft. He's 17-20 as Broncos starter, although that's misleading because of Denver's dismal defense.

In games that the Broncos have allowed 21 points or fewer, Cutler is an impressive 13-1, and that only loss was to Green Bay in 2007 when the Packers won the coin toss and Brett Favre threw an 82-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime.

Now, paying a little more attention to the article, the 4-19 record of Cutler is in games with 22+ points or more, the stats I did for Ben (11-20) are in games of 21+ points or more, so this might skew it a bit. But, this was just an exercise in curiosity more than anything else.

For a franchise who has had only 3 coaches in the last 30+ years, it was only a matter of time for them to get it wrong.

The Steelers fired Mike Tomlin today, after only 2 years on the job, for a litany of issues both during and after his Super Bowl winning season.

It was Tomlin who let their best lineman (Alan Fanica) leave in free agency which led to their star quarterback being the most sacked in the league this year, gave a slap on the wrist of their star receiver, Santonio Holmes, for his drug arrest earlier this year, and allowed their offensive coordinator, Bruce Arians, to stay on the staff after an abysmal regular season.

The last straw came when Tomlin embarrassed the franchise at the Super Bowl as he refused to touch the Lombardi Trophy thus invoking the ire of the Rooney family.

Dan Rooney was quoted at the winter meetings, "Bill (Cowher) was more than happy to lift his trophy high in the air. Chuck (Noll) held all four of his all at once. For Mike to disrespect our team as he has, to refuse to even touch the spoils of his victory, it's just not the Steeler Way."

The Rooney's have hence requested Tomlin to touch the Lombardi Trophy in the off season and his further refusal to lay hands on the franchise's legendary 6th trophy has led them to decide he is not the right man for the job.

The Steelers are in talks with several current and former coaches for their open position including Mike Shanahan, Russ Grimm and Marty Schottenheimer.
