Someone sent me this today...it sounds good to me!!!!

Divorce Agreement:

THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE
IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR
HIM.

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives,
socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together
since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has
made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for
many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this
relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will
not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms.
We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences
and go our own way. Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by
landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am
sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should
be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide
other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We
don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to
the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take
our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah,
Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for
finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical
companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless,
homeboys, hippies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey
moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC
and Hollywood.

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to
invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and
war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault we'll
help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam,
Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N., but
we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take
every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing
doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a
right

We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National
Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach
the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World.
We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up
poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our
history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like
minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit
delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of
us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall Law Student and an American

P. S. Also, please take Barbara Streisand & Jane Fonda with you

This type of simplistic over exaggerated stereotype and generalization is outdated and needs to be put to rest IMO.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values..

Are these the values you are talking about? (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn16680-porn-in-the-usa-conservatives-are-biggest-consumers.html)

Everyone take a breath and relax. There is a over all momentum in this post that I liked. I posted it. I know that opposing views are never right nor welcome, but this is the USA. Other views are good, remember?

Inclusion of ALL views allowed, right?

So then it would be OK if someone were to say this point of view sucks, that it's a real stretch to say this kind of post belongs on a Steeler forum in the first place, it represents an attitude that is at least partly to blame for putting this beautiful nation in the shape it's in over the past 8 years, and doesn't seem to be especially emblematic of the very Judeo-Christian values that it espouses?

Only asking!

Inclusion of ALL views allowed, right?

Yes and that would include the view that members should think twice before posting because stereotypes tend to cause resentment and reflect poorly on the person who presents them as having merit.

The overall tenor of what you have posted is that anybody who is not a conservative is a child who is abusing the privilege of living in the United States. Though I doubt you would be willing to say that to the face of the relatives of the many moderates and liberals who have died in the current war and/or previous wars. There are about ten-thousand miles of difference between loving this country and automatically lining up behind the political views of a particular party.

This country was founded on the notion of dissent and responsible citizenship. And responsible citizenship includes advocating those policies which you think are in the best interest of this country as a whole.

For me and for many others disagreement with the war in Iraq goes well beyond 'hating war' (although I see nothing wrong with hating war). I supported and still support the military operations in Afghanistan because I would like to see Osama bin Laden turned into a fine powder.

But to me it was completely obvious from about September of 2002 that the war in Iraq was a war of choice which would not increase our national security. I marched against the war and I am proud to have done so. It's clear now that there were no WMD and that, therefore, the entire premise of the war was false.

Democracy, much like science, is an unforgiving battleground of ideas. These stereotypes you have posted amount to nothing more than a self-serving intellectual short-cut which you appear to be using to convince yourself that you must be right because those who disagree with you are lunatics, bums and idiots.

(Don't get me wrong. I see this sort of stuff on the left too and I get emails like this from time to time. At rare times I even find them mildly amusing. But I would never post them in a shared space because at the end of the day, they are intellectual cul-de-sacs.)

Well, what nobody here knows about me is that I founded a (now-defunct) political project that was covered by Wired, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times - and that I've even had a political op/ed piece run on YahooNews. So verbose I can do.

No problem with that, except that I disagree to some extent on the placement. This is a portion of the board that allows for anything. Also, I disagree on the assessment of the Judeo-Christian values part.

I agree with republicans causing problems to this country like the democrats did, but I don't view the material in the post as a democrat/republican comparison.

Other than that, no problem.

This country was founded on the notion of dissent and responsible citizenship. And responsible citizenship includes advocating those policies which you think are in the best interest of this country as a whole.I think this view is a dissenting view from many, so I agree

For me and for many others disagreement with the war in Iraq goes well beyond 'hating war' (although I see nothing wrong with hating war). I supported and still support the military operations in Afghanistan because I would like to see Osama bin Laden turned into a fine powder. For the record, I am pro military and service personnel, but was not in in favor of the invasion of Iraq.

But to me it was completely obvious from about September of 2002 that the war in Iraq was a war of choice which would not increase our national security. I marched against the war and I am proud to have done so. It's clear now that there were no WMD and that, therefore, the entire premise of the war was false.
It's not clear that there were no WMDs. But, that was not the entirety of the premise for the invasion.

Democracy, much like science, is an unforgiving battleground of ideas. These stereotypes you have posted amount to nothing more than a self-serving intellectual short-cut which you appear to be using to convince yourself that you must be right because those who disagree with you are lunatics, bums and idiots.I don't think it is a stereotyping. BTW, I didn't write it. I got a copy of it, and it made me laugh. I thought I would share it.

(Don't get me wrong. I see this sort of stuff on the left too and I get emails like this from time to time. At rare times I even find them mildly amusing. But I would never post them in a shared space because at the end of the day, they are intellectual cul-de-sacs.) I have to admit that I enjoy laughing, and would love to read those.

Posting them in this part of the planet is OK. In fact, this part of the planet is here for a place to put all those posts that fit nowhere else.

Sorry dude, unless you are saying you equate liberalism and social progressivism with the Republican party as much as the Democratic party, I don't much buy your statment that you don't view the post as a "democrat/republican" comparison.

To me it reads like nothing more than a post meant to inflame passion in a very non-productive, non-intellectual way. Like the poster above more or less said, that was how things worked here (US Govnmnt) for 8 years - time to put that away, and use clear-headed thinking and problem solving skills, if we want to clean up the mess the Republicans made over the past 8 years (btw, that was a d/r comparison).

BTW - just in case the author doesn't actually know - those with Judeo-Christian values are taught to hate war. I guess the author is saying that "conservative patriots" don't? That's horrible

But yes, the author can keep their "hot" Alaska hockey moms. Just don't let them near the levers of power in our government please. And they can keep their gas-guzzlers since they want them so much, I'll try to buy good mileage vehicles, is that OK? And I'm sure they won't go to any movies, or watch any TV, right?, since Hollywood is such an evil place.

And finally, I don't think I'm the only progressive liberal who: "goes to church ...", "hunts with firearms ...", "believes in the role of the military ...", "sheds a tear as often as not when the National Anthem is played". And I do have a problem seeing why education through HS is a right, but not the most basic of healthcare. Both are essential to financial and national security, right?

Interesting stuff. What was the political project if you don't mind me asking?

I, on the other hand, can do verbosity pretty well. It's just the current subject matter that tends to bring out my succinct side. :tt2
