IMO, he is one of the unsung heroes for the season. As we got healthy his role was diminished, but he delivered when he was called upon and stepped up big in our first game against the Ravens.

Over 900 yards of total offense, 180 touches and only one fumble. Pretty damn good

He is a true Steeler kind of guy and my only bone of contention is that we didn't use him more when Willie got healthy. I think for certain plays he would of been more effective. This guy is such a great set of hands coming out of the backfield and is deserving of a lot of credit for this year's season of victories. MM needs to be our Kevin Faulk and needs to be a Steeler for the rest of his career. Probably the best siturational/3rd down back we've had in the fold for awhile.

he is a much more talented version of vernnon haynes. moore should play more. he is the best receiving rb on this team and he is a good blocker. it was an excellent pick up. those are the type of fa signings that wins championships. not over paying for players like javon walker or alan faneca

It will be real interesting next year when Mendenhall comes back healthy. By reputation he can catch the ball pretty well. I would not be surprised to see RM in the backfield more on 3rd down.

MM may find himself the odd man out but as we found out this year you need at least 3 good RBs in today's NFL or six if you are the Denver Broncos.

I'm not exactly sure why he would find himself the odd man out. He made the team this year. He wasn't even the last on the depth chart. Russel was one roster spot behind him. we keep 5 RB, personally I would see Russell being cut before him.

I think Moore should start pre season on the depth chart ahead of Mendy. Mendy still has to prove it on the field. I have high hopes for him though.

I would rather see Carey Davis either gone or as a #6 (meaning he is retained as a special teams specialist).

As I see it this team has four needs for next season

1) Improve the O-Line. They played well given their limitations. But we need to improve.
2) No more field goals from 1st and goal at the one. (better O-Line + Mendenhall should do the trick)
3) A better return threat on kick-offs. We are lucky if we can get the ball past the 30.
4) A bit more depth at the receiver position.

A possible fifth consideration is preparing for the demise of Casey Hampton. As others have said, he can still produce but he might go downhill pretty quickly.

I meant odd man out in terms of playing time not a roster spot. He is guaranteed a roster spot with how he proved he could carry the load when necessary for a limited period.

I would definitely add:

5) Two young defensive linemen because we can't play roulette on having an injury free season with a DL all over 30 years old.

I don't even see it as being odd man out in terms of playing time. He might not like it, but there is a stategic reason to reduce his playing time while others are healthy -- it's clear that he is the most versatile of the back so if he goes down we are limited in terms of subbing during the game or handling minor in-game injuries.

I'm guessing when Mendy was drafted, he was concerned.

When Mendy was hurt, he thought, "OK, now i'll get my chance".

As the season went on, tomlin thought, "brilliant move if i do say so myself"

today, they're both happy as hell that they took a chance on one another.

I agree the compition will come down to Davis or Russel for a roster spot. I think Russel wins the battle. We can always get another fullback.

Carrie Davis needs to be GONE pure and simple. I was screaming for a pass to Moore in the flat all night long. What is the obsession BA has with CD?? Has he ever gained more than 3 yds after catching a swing pass?

they'll keep 'em all.. if anybody goes, it's FWP, but, I doubt that, too....

FWP, Mendy, Moore, Russell, Davis... They all do different things....

Depending how OTA's, training camp and preseason goes, FWP COULD be the odd man out. Parker seems to need a good line to produce and we don't have that.

If we could trade Parker to a team that has RB issues and we can improve our team, we should do it.

Larry Foote and Willie Parker and a 5th to Detroit for their 2nd rounder?

Chadman was thinking along these lines too. Really- Mendenhall NEEDS to play. Moore can split time with him until he's ready to assume the role & push Moore to 3rd down duties.

One thing the Steelers NEED is a 'power runner'- those 3rd & shorts need converting.

It would be great to keep Parker, but with the way the OL has played, a pass catching RB is far more vital than a speedy slashing back that needs blocking. Mendenhall & Moore's recieving skills could be more important than their all around running abilities- it gives Ben options in the flat that he never had previously.

I'd still like to see us keep Parker for a year. If Mendenhall works out then Willie becomes expendable. But I would hate to go into the season without a proven feature back.

Given that our offense is evolving into something not dependent on the run, a single set back need only catch and block well. Last night it seems that without a lead blocker, FWP showed only that he's not the guy we need in the backfield... because of the type of plays being called. FWP's strength has never been running between the tackles, even when we did have a more solidified line. I have a feeling that if our current offense will be in place, someone like FWP WILL be the odd man out.

I predicted that we MIGHT trade FWP this year on this board about two months ago and got flamed for it. It makes too much sense to not at least consider it.

BTW, to those smarter than I am , can you predict that we might do something? Is that just confined to Jeanne Dixon stuff?
