View Full Version : Why don't the refs protect Ben?

Seems like they go out of theyre way to protect these sissy qb's and when it comes to Ben they just let him get killed. That hit in Ben's back was led by the helmet and late. I have seen this all year.--Id like to know how many roughing the qb calls against Ben have been called???? Anyone remember any at all?

A legit question in my mind.

And what about Harrison holds?

There have been a number of these unflagged late hits this year. I'm not sure why it is. It could be due to the violent nature of our team, including Troy's pansy comments, except it was happening before troy's comments. It could be Ben doesn't complain or cry for a flag like the mannings. It could be that he almost always gets up and plays on. It could be because ben so often jukes out tacklers and makes them look silly on a regular basis and he often extends plays to the last morsel of a possibility. Maybe the refs don't feel sorry for him like they do the mannings

Normally, I'd say that's (those hits on ben) the nature of the game and so be it. But since the refs insist on calling all kinds of ticky tack sh!t for every other qb, including that slight tap troy gave rivers on his head, then they should damn well be calling these late hits on ben. Boggles my scrotum how woodley can get fined for legally tackling Jason Campbell, while he had the ball and before the whistle, yet Ben gets pummled after he's thrown the ball several times a game it seems

Also the Monday (Sunday?) night game earlier this year when the Browns lineman took two strides and lowered his shoulder to hit Ben all after the ball was out. no flag. I don't care what the standard is as long as it is consistent.

That browns lineman was big baby Shaun Rogers and he put his shoulder squarely into Ben's, which had been sprained/seperated the week before. Well after he threw it. Even the cheesed!ck announcers said something about it.

It's pretty simple actually, because Mr. and Mrs. Roethlisberger weren't smart enough to name him Peyton or Tom.

i was screaming this all game...anytime we hit a QB, there seems to be flag, however they constantly let ben get hit all game long, often late...this is something that needs to be addressed.

I've seen numerous times this year where a qb gets grazed in the head by a finger or two and its called. But that's because it was to the head. Maybe these linemen know that as long as its not to the head it won't get called. But it doesn't change the fact that its late, which should still be flagged. The one official in the back of the qb is solely responsible for watching the qb after the throw, its his only job. How this individual can miss at least 3 (that I can recall) blatant late hits on Big Ben this year is beyond me.

I'm surprised that I'd not seen this mentioned anywhere, but what about the concussion he received against Cleveland? There, the defender is coming in around chest high, then jumps up as he hits him to go helmet to helmet.

That is what I call leading with the helmet, not the shoulder block that Ryan Clark threw.

I think that the refs just miss calls.

Remember that we got a total BS roughing the kicker call in our favour, so it's not bias against the team.

No doubt and I've mentioned that in another thread. But when it comes to the quarterback, the league has openly taken the stance that they are going to protect that position moreso than any other. And its severely inconsistent in how its being protected.

That was what I said after Troy got that lamo roughing call against Rivers.

Be consistent or get rid of the rule as un-enforcable.

Ben's a big boy and tough to bring down. So they let the defense get away with a little more.

Kinda cool that our QB is a football player.

Ben's not the only QB. Most big QBs have the same issue. Byron has probably taken as many tough shots over the years than Ben.

Had this hit been on Brady or Manning the two players would have been flagged and fined by the league. They may have gotten suspended. It's out of control how much those two are protected. If they are going to let Ben take those kinds of hits, they need to let all the QB's take those kinds of hits.
