Usually I wait until Thursday for this but I'm so anxious for this game and can't wait anymore.

Initially I dreaded this, but upon further review I'm not so worried.

The Rats did not look good at all on offense against the Titans or the Dolphins. I mean, they had FIVE turnovers against the Dolphins and could only manage 20 points (7 were scored on a pick 6 by Reed and ensuing XP). Flacco has been somewhat careful with the ball in the playoffs so far. Against the Dolphins he didn't take many chances; 9 completions for 135 yards. Against the Titans he took several and is lucky (that's right, lucky) that his WR's bailed him out. His long passes were thrown into double coverage and *should* have been knocked down at least. The Titans O dominated the Ravens D for most of the game. Chris Johnson had 72 yards rushing and a TD in the first half alone. Carelessness with the ball cost the Titans this game. The Ravens D looked beat up, tired and slow to the ball. But they found a way to win. They lived to fight another day and that's what it's all about.

Last time the Rats came to the Burgh Dick LeBeau had film on Flacco and put it to good use. In the first meeting Flacco had 192 yards passing, a TD and no picks. In the second meeting he managed 115 yards, no TDs and 2 picks. Conversely, Ben went from 191 yards, a TD and a pick to 246 yards passing, a TD and NO picks. The Rats did manage to rush for over 100 yards as a team (McClain had 87) so that is an area where the Steelers need to tighten up. Sproles, while much quicker and more deceptive, doesn't bring the size McLain and McGahee do. That's a concern.

The Steelers dominated a hot Chargers team and the score was not indicative of that domination. A garbage time TD ensured that. 122 of Rivers' 308 yards passing came in the 4th quarter when the Steelers were in prevent mode, giving up yardage by the chunk. It appeared to me, on the TD pass to Sproles, that the D was already thinking about the next game because this one was already well in hand.

The Steelers O line is playing well, starting with the Browns game and going through the Chargers game. Granted, those D's aren't quite as good as the Rats, but the O line is playing better than they did in the last matchup against the Rats and I feel good about that.

Both teams are motivated but we are healthy and playing at home. Two big advantages.

Sorry Rats, but the purple glass slipper comes off on Sunday. :moon

Baltimore is not dominating anyone. If not for the Chris Johnson injury and the Titans turning the ball over in the red zone, they wouldn't even be here. They are benefitting from being an opportunistic defense that capitalizes on the mistakes of other teams. If we do not make any egregious errors (i.e. if the turnover differential is in our favor or even), I think we can win by more than two TD's. Even if we give them a fumble recovery, an interception, and an advantage in the penalty margin, I still think we can beat them anyway, but then if would be a close game right to the end (by a FG or less). I think we play efficient mistake-free football and win 24-7.

Steelers are in the head of the Ravens. The Ravens took a pounding last week. Our Steelers our healthy. Our defense had the unexpected luxury of only having to play 3 quarters last week. The Steelers win by 15.

Just read on another forum that John Riggins and Randy Cross (on XM I think) both said the Ravens appear to be tired and that the Steelers should pull away in the 3rd quarter, sealing it in the 4th. Said the Ravens are a great team this year but are just out of gas.

I think the Steelers go up by at least 7 at the end of the 2nd Qtr and build on that in the 3rd Qtr. They may give up a meaningless late TD just like against SD.

24-17 us.

Their last TD will be in garbage time. Sweed gets some play time, and a penalty.

My prediction: Ravens run more than 1 play in the third Q. Call me a troll, but I think they are that good  . (I am not willing to bet on it to back it up though).

23-10 Good guys.

They keep pace until around half then we lock it down going into the fourth quarter and hold down Flacco for good.

I think we win by at least 7 if we win the TO battle. If we do the above, I think we will lose a close one. 8)

17 - 3 Steelers.

I think this score may be closer depending on McClain's injury, but if he is not able to go, their offense will stall in a big way.

24-10.

I think we go into halftime with a 10-7 lead. In the 2nd half we wear them out and pull away for the 24-10 win and head to Tampa!

I think the Steelers win going away! I think they will get off to a quick start and put pressure on the rookie QB to makes plays with his arm which will set up oppurtunities for the secondary to make plays. The Ravens have been winning the TO battle so far in the playoffs but I think the trend gets switched this weekend. I see 3-4 Ravens turnovers and 0-1 for the Steelers. I just don't see Baltimore sticking around in this game.

Steelers 27
Ravens 6

Time to get ready for Tampa!

If Nate produced the stats you posted, that exceeds (by 15 yds) Ben's 265 yds passing. Is someone else going to have -15 yds?

I guess either Nate won't get 125 yards or Ben will have to pass for more than 265......which is more likely? 8)

Can't believe this thread was languishing on page 2, so here's the bump.

I look at the keys to this game being ball control and winning TOP, much like last week's game was. There are subtle differences in the style the Rattards bring to the table, so the Steelers approach will be a bit different this week.

I think the Steelers will try and play sideline-to-sideline most of the time, getting FWP outside the Ts as much as possible. This will string out an already tired Rattard D, forcing them to chase the running game. It should also help the Steelers protect the rock as FWP (or whoever the ball carrier is) should be near a sideline as they are picking up yards.

Using the sidelines most of the time should open up the middle for short dink and dunk passes by Ben to Heath. This should be that much more successful based on the availability of Terrell Sucks. Heath is $$$ when he is used deliberately and Ben is on target.

Figuring that the weather is going to impede a long passing game, that will probably be used sparingly as well. But with Rolle being out, the Steelers should be able to match up well on the corners when they choose to go over 10 or 15 yards on a sideline pattern.

I'm sure the O will do everything in its power to take Ed Peed out of the equation. The balance of their offense should be able to accomplish that.

The D must keep doing what they have been doing all year. But, for this game, they must be extra vigilant against any long plays and they would be well-advised to force Fucco into lots of 3rd down passing situations. A rookie QB in a game of this magnitude is likely to make a costly mistake when forced to throw on 3rd and long.

I see a close game at halftime, with neither team having gained a decided advantage.

But the Steelers should be able to start pulling away in the 2nd half, as the Rattard D will most likely to be fairly well drained, playing in the coldest weather they have played in all year. Their D has been failing them at the most inopportune times in the playoffs, yet they have gotten this far on ball hawking and keeping the possession in the hands of the O. That will not happen this game.

The Steelers will control the tempo of the second half and if they do get boxed up inside the 30, they may just settle for a FG and allow the D to shut down the Rattard O. But, I think the Steelers have 2 offensive TDs in them tomorrow and Skippy will probably be busy, but it might be likely that his leg could beat the Rattards on his own.

It will be close for a while. But I see the final score being:

STEELERS 26
RATTARDS 9

Tampa Bay, here we come!!!

I see this game as being hard fought all the way into the third quarter. Steelers hold a narrow lead, 14-10, at the half. A grinding, field possession battle in the third and then they explode late in the quarter, scoring two touchdowns and a field goal in the last twenty minutes.

Final score.

31-13 Steelers

Yes sir!
