I've always hated listening to that boob. With him and Summerall slobbering over the Cowboys for years, until now...(good video game though  )

We all heard the way that he and Michaels manipulated the idiotic audience with claims that he did not see holding in SB XL despite the replay showing an arm wrapped around Haggans' neck.

Here were a couple of gems from yesterday, even though I did not watch most of the SD Indy game.

On the final drive they were talking about how much the officials were playing a role in the winning drive by calling three penalties. One of them then said that they had no argument with any of the calls, that each was a penalty. Well, if the calls were right then why comment on the officiating? Instead they should have been discussing how Indy was shooting themselves in the foot by commiting the penalties instead of taking the more controversial angle that the refs were calling them.

Another funny comment came on the Sproles fumble into the endzone that Indy recovered. Madden mentioned how Indy got the ball before it had gone out of the endzone, implying that there would have been a different result if the ball went out of the endzone. However, the result would have been the same - turnover, Indy ball on their own 20. Does he really not know that? I'm just a guy who watches on TV and I know that.

It just cracks me up because of how highly regarded this blob is. After SB XL a friend of mine (who just happens to be a Seahawks fan somehow) was whining about the officiating. I told him that all of his complaints were obvious penalties - offensive holding and pass interference - that it was clear to the naked eye and the head of NFL officiating agreed with each of the calls except the Hasselback illegal block on the int return. I then asked him "Why do you feel they were bad calls? Because Madden said so?" And he replied "Yes, thats John Madden! Who knows football better than him?" The answer? Almost anyone.

They are both clowns...how much time did they spend fawning over Manning and his haircut?

You are right, Madden is way past his prime, doesn't follow the game or provide any insight. When he does provide "analysis" his points are either totally obvious or incorrect.

Michaels wants to do nothing but find some perceived "controversy," like pointing out the officiating as you said. What about the amount of time he spent on Chambers catch by the sideline, and how Dungy couldn't risk calling for the review since he had just lost one? They went back to that play for the next 5 minutes, talking about how obvious it was the his feet weren't down, that Dungy couldn't risk throwing the challenge flag, and how it was going to influence the outcome.

When the Steelers make it to the Super Bowl, the only disappointing aspect will be that those two jerks will be calling the game.

You often enough you are going to say stupid things. That's human nature. I take what these guys say w a grain of salt until it becomes personal.

As for the Seahawks superbowl .. they did manipulate a lot of people into thinking those were penalties. They were penalties to the Nth degree. The only questionable call was Ben's TD. So what, would have scored on 4th down anyway.

All I know is we are about to start working on the other hand w/ the Rings.

I forgot about that one. Funny, but if you look at it again, it looks like Chambers has the left foot down at the moment he makes the catch. Then, his right comes down and the left lifts a bit. While they were never down at the same time, I think that he did have each down and it was therefore a catch. They didn't even mention that possibility. So, after hours of discussion, they still might have been wrong.......AGAIN!!

I agree with you on the point I highlighted, but I would just appreciate it a little bit if Madden would occasionally say some smart things. As far as Michaels and his critique of the officials and the decisions made by coaches, either in XL or last night, just concentrate on calling the game. The way the game plays out will determine what the critical situations are, there is no need to manufacture them.

Nothing personal, SidSmythe - but NO NO NO NO NO NO - Ben's TD in Superbowl XL was NOT questionable - any fool with a computer and youtube access (like me) can replay that TD over and over and see that the tip of the ball broke the plane.

Just my opinion, but enough Madden-influenced fools are perpetuating that myth, we don't need to do it on a Steeler board. He will just be pissed off till he dies about the fact that his Raiders couldn't get past us way back when. :Hater (him, not you, SidSmythe buddy!)

I found it once, not sure where, but there is a still photo of the play online somewhere with a line superimposed on the photo and you can see the ball across the plane...and based on the position of the players it is not taken after the play either.

I froze these photos from the DVD I have of ABC's SBXL broadcast and had uploaded them to the Trib site the day after the game....

Yeah, and those push-off photos don't even show that he pushed him backwards in the air. That was really a no-brainer, correct call also.
