View Full Version : stlrz d's Playoff Fantasy Football Challenge v2.0

Well it's that time of year again. Except for those of us who are in a "week 17 Super Bowl" league, fantasy football is done for the season. Or is it? Fear not fantasy freaks for there still remains stlrz d's Playoff Fantasy Football Challenge! The challenge is open to everyone...even you Ovideo! :lol:

It's very simple...all you have to do is pick your players once the playoff field is set and I do all the work. That's right, you get to set it and forget it!

Last season a few of you participated and this season I hope more will join in. The only prize is bragging rights, but for some that's plenty! The person who has the highest cumulative point total after the Super Bowl is the winner. This is a not head to head competition.

Here's how it works:

Players:

You must pick ONE (and only one) player from each playoff team. Meaning when you pick Limas Sweed as your Steeler you can not pick another member of the Steelers to be on your squad. The players you pick are on your roster for the entire playoffs so choose wisely. Once that player's team is eliminated that roster spot is "dead".

Rosters:

Your must fill in one player at each of the following positions:

QB
QB
RB
RB
RB
WR
WR
WR
RB/WR (flex)*
TE
K
DEF/ST

If your roster is properly selected you will have one player to represent each of the 12 playoff teams. That is the most important thing to keep in mind as you set your rosters...not only must you choose players to fit the roster positions, you must choose one player from each playoff team. Did I mention you have to take at least one player from each playoff team? Cuz that's what you have to do in order to have a legal roster. :P

*Last year I went 3RB and 4WR. This year I figured I'd give the option of RB or WR at that "extra" spot. So you can have 3RBs and 4WRs or 4RBs and 3WRs. Hence the "flex". :D

Scoring:

This is how you score points and it's my league so this is not up for debate! That last part is really important! :D I'm the guy who will be tabulating the points so I try to keep it simple. Points are totaled each week and added to your cumulative score.

Yardage:
All offensive players will score 1 point for every 10 yards passing, rushing and receiving. Points are awarded in those statistical categories, not as total yardage. So if you have a RB who rushes for 109 yards, receives for 52 yards and passes for 13 yards (what a stud!) he would score 16 points in yardage. Got it? These points are accumulated weekly and yardage DOES NOT carry over to the next week.

TD:
Passing TD = 4 points
Rushing TD = 6 points
Receiving TD = 6 points
Fumble Recovery TD = 6 points

Kicking:
FG = 3 points
XP = 1 point

Two Point Conversion:
Passing = 1 point
Receiving = 1 point
Rushing = 2 points

DEF/ST:
KO Return TD = 6 points
Punt Return TD = 6 points
Safety = 2 points
Interception = 1 point
Sack = 1 point
Fumble Recovery = 1 point

Once the playoff games are complete each week I will post the weekly totals as well as the cumulative scores for all participants. Once posted, please check your scores and notify me of any discrepancies.

Full rosters are due before kickoff of the first wildcard game. You can either post your rosters here or PM them to me if you'd like to keep them private until the playoffs start. If you PM your roster to me I will not post it until after kick off of the first wild card game. Please do not post/PM rosters until after the full playoff field is set. Thank you!

If you have any questions please feel free to either post them or PM them to me.

So, think you're the ultimate fantasy GM? Then put it to the test in stlrz d's Playoff Fantasy Football Challenge...you know you want to!

Asian - might want to check your math on Peterson. I only got 14 out of him. Here's my tally:

QB - Peyton Manning (Indianapolis) - 37
RB - Adrian Peterson (Minnesota) - 14
RB - Ronnie Brown (Miami) - 11
WR - Anquan Boldin (Arizona) - 13
WR - Michael Jenkins (Atlanta) - 5
WR - Chris Chambers (San Diego) - 5
RB/WR (flex)* - Brian Westbrook (Philadelphia) - 17
TE - Todd Heap (Baltimore) - 3

Total points - 105. Not bad considering.

I was wondering how you guys got 37 from Manning and then I went back and looked at the scoring system. Whoops...I goofed! Yards were supposed to be one point for every 20 yards. :oops:

I'm not changing it now though. :oops:

But 37 is still incorrect. 310 yards = 31 and 1 passing TD = 4. 35 points.

D. McNabb: 300 yds & 1 TD = 34 pts.
A. Peterson: 83 yds & 2 TD = 20 pts.
M. Turner: 42 yds & 1 TD = 10 pts.
L. Fitzgerald: 101 yds & 1 TD = 16 pts.
Baltimore D/ST: 4 INT, 1 FR, 3 Sacks, & 1 TD = 20 pts.

RuthlessBurgher = 129 pts.

If Vincent Jackson and Anthony Fasano didn't have goose eggs, I'd be leading this thing. As punishment, Fasano will spend an entire offseason sleeping with the fishes in Miami, while Jackson is sentenced to pain at the hands of James Harrison this coming Sunday.

Yeah we've typically done a "normal" fantasy draft for the playoff teams and as teams get eliminated you lose players. I usually do pretty good. I was on a two or three year run of winning (picking mostly Steelers and Colts the years they went to Super Bowl), but the Giants bit me last year. I mixed my team up this year and got good players from various teams, but tried to ride the Giants and Steelers mostly. I don't necessarily think the Giants will go to SB, but their players kept being available when I was picking so I rolled with them.

I was really excited to see I was in first place, then I noticed one of my QBs is playing against the Steelers. But then I thought about the 10 yards per point. :Clap I can get 15 points if he throws for 150 yards and 5 picks as we win in a landslide.

Dont worry, us bottom feeders still have a chance. Standings are fairly well packed...kind of. If were down here again after next week, we may want to start worrying.

Oh, I'm still down here after today. You wonder why I haven't played FFB lately. :(

QB - Jake Delhomme (Carolina) - 24
RB - LenDale White (Tennessee) - 7
WR - Anquan Boldin (Arizona) - 0
TE - Todd Heap (Baltimore) - 2

Defintely out at this point. The rest of you enjoy!

D. McNabb: 300 yds & 1 TD = 34 pts.
A. Peterson: 83 yds & 2 TD = 20 pts.
M. Turner: 42 yds & 1 TD = 10 pts.
L. Fitzgerald: 101 yds & 1 TD = 16 pts.
Baltimore D/ST: 4 INT, 1 FR, 3 Sacks, & 1 TD = 20 pts.

If my math is correct, I think I can add the following to my wild card weekend score:

D. McNabb: 217 passing yards, 16 rushing yards, 1 passing TD, 1 rushing TD = 32 pts.
B. Jacobs: 92 rushing yards = 9 pts.
D. Williams: 63 rushing yards and 6 receiving yards = 6 pts.
L. Fitzgerald: 166 receiving yards and 1 TD = 22 pts.
V. Jackson: 49 receiving yards and 1 TD = 10 pts.
H. Ward: 70 receiving yards = 7 pts.
R. Bironas: 1 FG and 1 XP = 4 pts.
Baltimore D/ST: 2 FR, 1 INT, 1 sack = 4 pts.

That would be 94 points in the divison round.
Add that to my 129 points in the wild card round, and I am up to 223 points heading into conference championship weekend.

I will happily accept no points from the Baltimore D/ST in the Playoff Fantasy Football Challenge next week...no FR's, no INT's, no sacks, no TD returns.

However, I demand to get 100 bonus points for every Hines block that knocks a Baltimore defender out of the game (in addition to his receiving yards and TD's, of course!) :mrgreen:

I got only one week out of each of my RB's. Peterson and Turner were one and done in the wild card round and Jacobs and Williams were one and done in the division round after having a bye.

I'm happy to have a QB left in McNabb, plus two WR's in Fitz and Hines.

I have the Baltimore defense too, but I've already determined that we are going to advance to the Super Bowl by not making any of the mistakes that Baltimore (+13 turnover differential in the regular season and +7 turnover differential so far in the playoffs), so I'm not giving them any points for possible interceptions, fumble recoveries, sacks, or return TD's.

I just noticed that I have the same exact guys left as Pappy (McNabb, Fitz, Hines, and Baltimore D/ST). It's kinda hard to make up a 50+ point difference when we will score the same the rest of the way no matter what.

I want you to know that the reason the Steelers offense clicked against SD and will continue to blossom is directly related to the fact that I picked Jeff Reed as a kicker - thinking we would get a lot of Field Goals.
