View Full Version : Army's Uniforms Rock!

Hey, Army football is traditionally black-n-gold, so I'm not too far off topic here. I was just wondering if anyone else is checking out the Army-Navy game and the uniforms by both teams. Army's is friggin bad-ass. Camo helmets, pants, and numbers with black jerseys. Instead of a name tape it says "Duty, Honor, Country" and has "Boots on the Ground" written down the pant leg. Personnaly, I'd outline the numbers in gold or white and put a thick, black stripe down the pant legs, but those uniforms rock! Too bad we still suck.

Just flipped it on to check it out.
Dunno about those unis man...they look like they are ready to go duck hunting. They should be playing Oregon.

Fly boys blow!
I have never been able to run any serious smack about Army football...even in the interservice rivalries. Too bad the Coast Guard doesn't field a team.
I just responded to that thread and I was thinking that some jackass might consider this off topic and lock it as well. Lock up an Army-Navy thread and I'm gone.

Hey FlaSteel :moon
Sorry to see the score so bad today. Looks like they are going to have to form an Army-AF All Star team to beat the squids. They've won four or five trophies in a row.

I'm a Florida State guy, and have said the same thing about my own program... sharp new duds are cool, but they work better when the product on the field is decent. FSU should've spent more $$$ recruiting and less on new unis - maybe then they'd be Orange Bowl bound instead of sitting home today watching Boston freaking College get rolled in front of 30,000 fans disguised as empty seats. Navy's unis today were as hideous as Army's were sharp, but Navy's results were beautiful. Always have had a problem with programs running out flashy duds and not having the goods to back it up. Georgia did it this year, too - got smoked by 'Bama on "blackout night".
By way of bringing this around to the Stillers - our record in the lemonhead throwbacks is pretty solid, isn't it??? I don't think we've lost in those, have we?

Do we dare pull those out for the Cowgirls game? Or are they just for 'Primetime'?
PS-Theres a college football thread under forums. Not saying this needs to be moved at all. Just lettin you know in case you want to have further college conversation...

Yeah, it's been that way for a while now. Gotta be the coaching. Neither program gets football scholarship players and you'd think that Navy wouldn't have any type of edge in recruiting tougher or better athletes. With the whole war on terrorism thing, I'd expect less and less talent being brought to the service academies for a few more years...too bad.

Tally, please tell me you're not talking about those all black unis...they are hideous.
As far as Army and Navy, I think Nike donated them as part of a new line of jerseys called "Enforcer". I'm not sure if the service academies had to shell out any $$ or not, but they don't exactly get to recruit players like everyone else does.
And yes. I think we are 3-1 in the "lemonhead" throwbacks.

Yeah, I speak of the black duds... and I don't like them as much as some folks around here do. BUT... people think those atrocities that Nike put on Oregon look good, too. I personally attribute their loss to Cal last year to the fashion gods striking them down for crimes against humanity for the unis they wore.
I like the all black at FSU 'cause of the whole "unconquered" bit, though - kinda cool that the Seminole Tribe of Florida never signed a peace treaty with the US gov't . Unconquered and now owners of 2 huge casinos and 140 Hard Rock Cafes worldwide... the best revenge is living well, yes? Irritates the crap out of the ones from Oklahoma, though...
I do have weird taste in the unis sometimes, though - kind of a classic look guy. I like Alabama, don't mind Penn State, and love those Honolulu Blues that the Lions run out at every Thanksgiving tailwhipping. San Diego still needs to go with theirs full time.
As to Army, good look. coulda been garish, ala the Tampa Bay Storm in the Arena League mid '90's, but it wasn't. Classy. Probably as creative and effective a recruiting tool as they have right about now... not for a football team, but for enlistments generally.

Not to rain on any parades here, but those black Florida State jerseys weren't really about honoring any tribe.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/c ... 7974.story (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/orl-fbcfsu1408nov14,0,6877974.story)
University officials like to say the Seminoles will wear black to offer tribute to the Seminole Tribe. But when asked about the jerseys earlier this week, Bowden's first thought offered perhaps the most honest explanation why FSU will dress in black.
"Really," he said, "we're doing it for Nike."
FSU and Nike are in the 11th year of a multi-million-dollar contract that could bind the two parties through the 2014-15 academic year. For branding its athletes with a Nike swoosh, Florida State receives $1 million per year from Nike. The contract also allows FSU each academic year to order, free of charge, approximately $2.1 million worth of Nike products for its athletic programs.
During the past couple seasons, FSU's order has included the black football jerseys, which feature the word "unconquered" -- a tribute to the Seminole Tribe -- down one of the pant legs.
The Seminoles wore them in defeat against Boston College during the 2006 season and in victory against Duke a season ago. Each time, fans have been encouraged to show up to Doak Campbell Stadium dressed in black. The games have been dubbed "blackouts."
"We definitely get excited about it," FSU quarterback Christian Ponder said. "Everyone loves the black uniforms . . . it's different . . . it's fun."
Though Bowden went along with a joke during his Sunday breakfast with the media that Nike "added another zero" to the contract to entice FSU to continue wearing the black jerseys, Monk Bonasorte, an FSU senior associate athletic director, said Nike does not pay Florida State an additional amount in return for the Seminoles wearing black.
Replicas of the jerseys retail for $74.95.
Bonasorte said he wasn't sure how the black jerseys originated, but Bowden said, "Nike wants us to do it."

I've been stuck trying to figure out what to get my dad for Christmas this year, and after watching the Army-Navy game today, I met up with him at a local hockey game tonight. He mentions how sharp the new jerseys are, and wondered aloud about where he might be able to get one of those with a number 73 on it (because he enlisted in the Army in 1973). I've been scouring the web, and I see replicas for sale for $65 bucks on a few web sites, but they are only offering #12. Anyone have any insight about a place that might be able to offer these Nike Enforcer jerseys with customized camoflage numbers? Thanks.

Jesus! No love for the Navy here? :wft
My late father and my father-in-law were both Navy. My father was a peacetime reservist from 1957 to 1964. My father-in-law served as a meteorologist in the Korean theater. Would have been an aviator but his vision test wasn't up to snuff. He became a private pilot later anyway.
That said, I was proud to see the Camo-on-Black of the Cadets. It was original, yet classy, as the Military Academy always is. One day, I am sure, the Cadets will get it on track and once again compete with the Middies and do those unis justice.
Until then:
GO NAVY!!! FLY NAVY!!! BEAT ARMY!!! BEAT AIR FORCE!!!
