WTF? I thought GR was doing well in short ydg. situations. I guess this means for sure that FWP won't be active Sunday. Thoughts?

Steelers Re-Sign Running Back Najeh Davenport;
Release Cornerback Roy Lewis

The Steelers made a roster move today when they brought back veteran running back Najeh Davenport to their active roster.

Davenport, who played in four games earlier this year after re-signing with the team in early October, was released following Week 9. He originally joined the Steelers as a veteran free agent in 2006, but was released by the team on June 28 of this year. In two-plus seasons with the Steelers, Davenport has rushed for 768 yards and seven touchdowns on 177 carries (4.3 avg.), and has caught 33 passes for 394 yards (11.9 avg.) and three scores. He has also returned 38 kickoffs for 788 yards (20.7 avg.) during his Steelers career.

The Steelers made room on their roster by releasing rookie cornerback Roy Lewis, who played in one game this year after spending the first nine weeks on the teamís practice squad.

That's cool to have another RB ready to roll. I just don't want to see him taking carries away from Russell. I really want to see this guy get 10-15 carries in the game. Russell has the ability to wear out defenses if given the chance...

Problem is, Stanz, is that he will take carries away from GRuss.

Chumptruck is inadequate in nearly every area of his game and he is a technically flawed runner in that he runs like he's had a flagpole shoved into his back. He's way too rigid in his running style.

I wish Colbert would quit bringing this guy in. Chumptruck brings < nothing to the Steelers running game, he doesn't block well at all, and he's merely a warm body on ST.

You guys think that this might be step to protect Russell by putting Najeh back on the KR duty? Maybe they anticipate giving Russell more carries & want to keep him healthy.

:wft I don't know...I'm grasping...I continue to be baffled by Colbert.

I would hate to see Russell taken off of kickoffs.

Davenport brings nothing to this team IMHO.
Hes just a body that knows the offense.
They should've resigned Krieder and let Davis backup as 3rd RB.
What is Steelers fascination with Davenport?

Although I'd hate it, and I certainly don't agree with it, maybe they are bringing him in to spell Russell on KOs (a point I hadn't considered). Russell has added a spark back there that I like, but if the team plans on utilizing GR more in the game itself, well I guess we'll just see how it plays out. One other interesting thing I take away from this-I get the impression that FWP is more injured than we think and may be out for a while.
