A player who saw the fine letter told Benz that the Woodley allegedly threw Campbell down “in an intimidating manner.”

Defenses are no longer to be intimidating?

Here's the video...it's sack #5

When I was watching the game I thought the QB fumbled, and it was our recovery and touchdown. Since the NFL was busy looking at what the refs didn't see (like this "roughing" call), did they happen to mention the missed fumble call?

Goodell is a Bad Word!

That is total B.S. as usual...he made a normal tackle. Just like Justin Tuck of the Giants getting fined for falling ontop of Brooks Bollinger. Stupid. Lets just get used to this everyone, this is how the NFL is going to be from now on...there's no reason to harp on about it because they aren't going to change their minds at this point. Although apparently the NFLPA is going to elevate this item on their agenda for discussions with the NFL in the offseason.

As for the sacks...that video was freakin cool. El busto (Timmons) is special.

I just watched that video.

Here's what stands out to me:

Woodley made that Tackle look like crap.

I dont know how else he could've brought Campbell down. Is he just supposed to hug him and wait for the whistle? There's a word for what Woodely did to Cambpell... its called tackling...

Timmons is faaaast but Ike should almost get .5 sack for that because he stopped Campbell from throwing it away.

You know what? I just remembered another f'n thing.

Remember how Ben's shoulder got hurt in the first place? When Tubby McEatsCows of the Browns hit him late...

No fine for that!!!

Why do QBs not named Ben Roethlisberger get protected like that, and he doesn't?

This is getting my goat!!! And my goat don't like being gotten!!!

Yeah, I thought there was a missed fumble there as well and even expected Tomlin to throw the red flag. I guess that just goes to show how inexperienced he is.

I agree, if the NFL is going to review and fine Woodley for that, they should review and fine the ref who blew the fumble call. In other words, they are targeting D players (particularly Steelers) for 'mistakes' and protecting refs for mistakes.

'tackle him gently' is the message here and I hope Tomlin is telling his players to ignore it. It should be the first thing on the agenda when we get our first opportunity to intimidate Frady Queen later this year.

I thought it was Mario Williams that hurt Beezy...but yeah, you are right, why wasnt that a fine??!! (the McEatsCow hit)

This is a joke man, i hope Tomlin tells these guys to keep on playing the way they are playing and screw the fines... :HeadBanger

You're right. Mario's hit hurt him initially, but I remember that a being the hit that aggravated it into a worse injury...

I could be wrong. I'd look it up, but I'm afraid I'll get fined if I click my mouse to hard.

What really upsets me is the players give a lot of their money to the players union, and the union is stepping up to protect these guys.

Screw them

What the BS is is that apparently the NFL has given the refs a new set of guidelines, but no one has communicated them to the teams and players. And when they are not applied consistently from game to game, or even play to play within a game, the whole thing becomes a farce of Pythonesque proportions.

So it's sort of like 20 questions - "Was that tackle too hard"? "Yes, it was. But only for that play. You'll have to guess about whether it's the same on your next play"!

Bogus BS.

Wasn't it Al Davis who said, "The quarterback must go down and he must go down hard!" :?:

Perhaps the NFL thinks Davis is such a senile old loon, that they had to change that mantra to "The quarterback must go down and he must go down nice and gently." :Binky

Looks like the National Fines League strikes again. In the words of Marvin Lewis, "I guess you have to cuddle him to the ground."

This is probably the most BS call I've seen on us yet. At least with the one Harrison fine, they gave a reason. "In an intimidating manner"? Give me a break! Let's just stick the QBs with velcro flags and give them :Binky . Because that's what this is amounting too.

And we're not alone, either. Looking through those comments, I couldn't find one that supported the league's decision.

This is a travesty. It makes me ashamed to say that Goodell graduated from MY university. :Hater

Please, can't you make your point in a "less intimidating manner"?

Going "down nice and easy" - maybe it should be called the Tina Turner League, instead of the National Football League!

(Alternatively, "The Zorro Quinn League" may also be appropriate ...)

This really makes me think...

Supposedly the NFL is levelling these fines in an effort to protect players from unnecessary injury. Fining a player for tackling someone in an intimidating fashion admits that the focus is not on preventing physical injury, rather, preventing the other player from a bruised ego. So what is the point of that? Drain the emotion from the game and turn it into pure physical ability with no heart? Enter the NPPKL (National Punt Pass and Kick League) Perhaps they should fine coaches for pep talks and players for making faces at each other across the line of scrimmage. Intimidation is intrinsic to the game and the Steelers are particularly good at it. I think it is a big mistake that they used the word intimidation in Woodleys fine letter.

:Agree Yes, I feel so strongly about this, I agree with myself!

Tuck fine rescinded:

Now what about Woodley's???

I dont get it...Tuck actually did drive Bollinger into the ground. Not that I would fine him but it is how I interpret the current interpretations of the rules. In any case, it is no different than Woodleys tackle with extreme prejudice. Just good, hard football.

In contrast, Shaun Rogers unflagged, unfined hit on Roethlisberger was pure douchethuggery!
