The Steelers released veteran punter Mitch Berger, who has been bothered by hamstring injuries in both legs, and re-signed Paul Ernster today.

Ernster, a fourth-year free agent, was with the team in training camp, but released on Aug. 30 when the Steelers decided to keep Berger as a replacement for injured Daniel Sepulveda.

Berger averaged 41.9 yards in eight games this season, but he had punts of 27, 32 and 35 yards against the Washington Redskins.

This move was probably a week overdue. Berger is not getting any better. My bigger concern is how does this effect holding on FGs and PATs.

Agreed, he shouldn't have been out there limping around Monday night. Could have
cost us the game.

My dude went from gettin' a game ball from most of us last week to cut this week. That has to suck. Wish him luck in the future.

Ernster, boot the $hit out of that ball...

wonder how long it will take berger to file a grievance with the players union? I bet the paperwork is already in.

Not necessarily. I think he gets healthy and might find another job right away. He got paid in full due to veteran status, so really has no complaint...or so I understand that is the situation.
