Last weeks post are not available at this time. Reason being, I was not able to export last weeks information from the database for some reason so I used to last bakcup I had which was from a few days prior. A small issue to have in order to get this website back up and running

We are now officially on a new hosting platform starting today :) :)

Small price to pay, I was probably just ranting about something insignificant anyway...

Thanks for the new host J, it seems wicked fast.

Maybe now we can call everyone back in and have this board be the focus of Steeler Nation so that I don't have to keep an eye on 7,197 message boards....

Thanks again!!!

All,

I agree -- I think a lot of people moved to the temporary board during the tough couple weeks for Planet Steelers. I suspect that most people will move back to this site and we'll see posts significantly increase within the next few days to week. This site provides some of the best functionality that I've seen compared to the other sites out there.

I moved to a more reliable we host. This new web host indicated that I will probably have to upgrade to one of their VPS options in the future because of how much traffic this site gets. They offer much better support and turnaround time on issues which is GREAT. The costs are also significantly higher for this web host. However, as I found out... there are several hundreds of hosts out there that offer "cheap" packages. While these hosts are good for smaller sites, even they admit that they can't support a site of this caliber on a shared platform and most of these "cheaper" hosts don't have the expertise or hardware to support a VPS or dedicated server.

Additionally, this new web host offers a clear upgrade path for Planet Steelers. Right now, were are on their highest shared hosting plan which is about 5 times more expensive than the "cheaper hosts". Then, the next path once we exceed the shared account restrictions is a VPS. After we exceed a VPS, a dedicated server is required. Costs double to triple for VPS'. Then they double, triple, or could even quadruple when a dedicated server is involved.

Although some of this information may be "hard to digest" because it is technical....I just want to let you all know that Planet Steelers has a PLAN and clear DIRECTION. This site is in it for the LONG HAUL!

:)

Thanks,

John

I'm an admitted addict. No need for recovery, because the addiction is sooooo good. There's a good thing going here, so I plan on being here.

John,

Thank you for your effort and financial investment in the site. You have poured a lot of your time into making this site one of the best places on the net for Steeler discussion and I appreciate your efforts.

Planet Steelers can now be accessed via any of the below:

http://www.pittsburghsteelersforum.com
http://www.steelersapparel.com
http://www.steelerscentral.com
and of course... http://www.planetsteelers.com

The 3 new addresses will be active for the next year. At that time I will reassess if we should keep those domains. I also plan on creating 1 more domain such as steelershighlights.com. However, if you all have any recommendations, I'm all years!

Thanks for the upgrades, I'm a retired network guy, so I got a good idea what you went
threw. My question is where were the people for the game thread last week? Many people
feel this board is dead and are not coming to it. The Trib has made a new game thread,
they're no competition what so ever, but the people are going there now that they
upgraded their software and equipment. Have you a plan to bring the posters back?

All,

I don't think we lost very many posters during the outage. During this week I've seen much of the same posters that have always been here. ShawnMedGuy and asiansteel are both active. I have not seen NkySteeler in quite some time.

Saturdays typically are slower days as well. We can expect a much much busier day tomorrow :)

constanza2k1 is also one of our most active and insightful posters. He is still very active on this board as well.

I believe most everyone is back here now, I've sent out quite a few emails to folks letting them know that our Planet is backup and stable now. This thing is blazing fast btw! I love it. Thanks for all your work.

Throughout this whole process, I've tried to keep everybody in the loop either through PMs and through emails... thanks everybody for their patience and their loyalties. As I stated in many of the correspondences, our community that we've collectively built is a great one and we never wanted our membership to stray elsewhere. John, thanks again for all you do.

http://www.steelersapparel.com??? You don't plan on selling t-shirts with the PlanetSteelers bye week photoshop contest pics on them, do you? As long as I don't see anyone wearing a cut-off tank-top with a picture of the "Planet People" I think I'd be fine with it.

Great Point asiansteel!

Just a general reminder to all, please try to make sure that your email address on your profile is up to date. This will help if I try to send out a mass email message to all members of the forum. And through recommendations I have exported all email address to my local hard drive so that if the web site ever crashed for an extended period , I have updated email addresses so the mods and I can keep everyone in the loop. I know in the past this has been something that I, personally have not excelled at :)
