    Chris Hoke: Why Not Try...

One thing I am wondering after watching him play really well yet again...why dont they try him at DE more?

I think our DL would be pretty good with:
    Smith-Hampton-Hoke.

Hoke can get to the QB, stay at home and stop the run, and has a lot of power on the DL.

Anyone else think it'd be interesting to see him play DE more when Hampton is healthy?

I've thought that before, guy never quits and goes all out everytime. When Hampton goes out it would make sense to have him in the DE rotation.
ours is not to wonder why just invert and multiply...

      I don't agree.

Get rid of Casey. I think Hoke was not only effective as our starting NT, but extremely mobile and proficient. Just my two yen... but Casey doesn't seem like he takes his position with the team too seriously.

Absolutely! Not to blow my own horn, but I suggested this before last year's playoff game and we actually did it. The problem is two-fold however.

        1. Hoke already gets a lot of reps in relieving Hampton throughout the game. We need that to keep everyone fresh.
        2. Kiesel is so athletic that there's no way LeBeau would want him replaced. I think it would be a tremendous upgrade against the run, but we might lose some flexibility and maybe a little heat on the QB.

I'd be careful about that. We may not think much of it, but NT and DE are two different positions. We don't know if he'd have the same success in that position.

And the DL, despite the injuries, is doing fine. Why fix something that isn't broke?

I don't know Casey's contract status, but this might not be a bad time to start thinking about life without him (trade, FA, whatever) because Hoke stepped up in '05 and he's doing it again now.

I think the Snack's days could be numbered in the Black & Gold. I love what the guy does when he's healthy and I think he can still do it but he just doesn't seem to take his health seriously.

But of course Grady Jackson is back in Atlanta, so it goes to show these big guys are somewhat of a commodity.

I am worried that one of these years casey is just going to have a major degredation. Not a slow erosion in play, but a BOOM. When that happens Hoke will be there.
