The Steelers officially added another running back to their 53-man roster today, promoting Gary Russell from the practice squad and re-signing him to a one-year contract.

Russell, an undrafted free agent in 2007, was with the team for the first two games this season but was released Sept. 20 because the Steelers needed an extra linebacker for special teams. He was added a day later to the practice squad after clearing waivers.

His signing comes a day after the Steelers signed running back Najeh Davenport, who was with the team for two seasons before being released in June.

The Steelers also have added rookie guard Doug Legursky and rookie defensive end Jordan Reffert to the practice squad. Both players were with the team in training camp. To make room, safety Grant Mason was released.

Also today, Steelers kicker Jeff Reed, who kicked the winning 46-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Baltimore Ravens Monday, was named the AFC special teams player of the week today.

Reed, who had three field goals against the Ravens and hasn't missed an attempt this season (7 of 7), has seven game-winning field goals in his career. The 46-yarder was the longest of those winners.
More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
