This is so tragic. The deaths continue to pile up at the doorstep of the NFL as players are shot and killed every year, and now young Richard Collier is paralyzed and has had his left leg amputated. So very, very sad!

Doctors: Jaguars tackle Collier is paralyzed and had leg amputated

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier, who was shot earlier this month, is paralyzed below the waist and has had his left leg amputated, his doctors said Monday.
They said Collier, who had 14 bullet wounds, is now in stable condition after being previously listed in critical condition.
Collier and former teammate Kenneth Pettway were waiting for two women outside an apartment complex early Sept. 2 when a gunman fired into the vehicle, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Pettway was not injured.
The motive behind the attack on Collier is unknown, but investigators said earlier he appeared to be targeted.
Collier was the third NFL player shot in the past 18 months. Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor was fatally shot during what police said was a botched burglary attempt at his Miami-area home in November. Broncos cornerback Williams was killed when his rented limousine was sprayed with bullets minutes after leaving a New Year's party at a club in 2007.

Absolutely tragic when something like this happens. However, I can't get over the fact that this guy took FOURTEEN bullets and LIVED!

People don't tend to think of a guy who lost a leg and is paralyzed from the waist down as being lucky, but just one of those bullets could have hit the wrong artery like in the case of Sean Taylor and Collier wouldn't be among us any longer. It is good to hear that he is now in stable condition rather than critical condition.

Man this very sad, unbelievable. With 14 shots I guess he's very lucky to be alive. Had it been a smaller non athlete who knows if he would've survived. Just tragic.

Was this a mob hit? 14 bullets?

If I just got plugged with 14 bullets and still had my life losing the leg would seem like I just hit the lottery. I feel bad for the young man and I wish him the best of luck and a speedy recovery.
