I am not a math major...nor do I really like extreme algorithms or differential equations.............but luckily this doesn't take any of that:

Limas Sweed- 3 dropped passes last night
2 drops in the Bills game
1 drop in the Eagles game
---------------------------------------------------
6 drops total in THREE games.

He might be a TALL target....but the question is, can he actually catch?

I mean you know its bad when Nate Washington, corporate sponsor is Butterfinger, looks better and more consistent than you......and so does Willie Reid.

Oh and btw...what happened to Dallas Baker? He forget how to catch too?

Gibson couldn’t even comprehend the nuances of the Steeler’s offense, he was atrocious. Sweed will improve as a player, just give him time.

Santonio Holmes had butterfingers in his first season, too. Just give the guy some time. He'll be good. He also made a couple tough catches last night, so he somewhat redeemed himself in my book.

BustaSweed!

Each year we see inconsistencies out of our rookies. I'm confident he'll improve as the season wears on.

I'm with you on Baker......Sheesh!

Sweed is not Gibson. Sweed will be a very good WR once he can play without overthinking everything. He will be fne.

Exaggerate much? If Sweed=Gibson, You might as well compare Mendenhall to Tim Worley after those two fumbles. As the Who might say, "The Kids Are Alright." Don't panic.

I think you can say bu-bye to Baker.... but can someone refresh my memory on when this organization drafted a receiver in the 1st or 2nd round that ended up a bust?

Benny - I agree with what you have to say much of the time but I hope you're wrong here, I'll stick with the idea that the rooks are going to be ok.

I think we can trace Sweed and Gibson's difference through college (If I'm not mistaken Gibson wanted to play in the NBA?).

Sometimes, as a defense mechanism, we push memories that are that terrible deep into our subconscious.

By the way, you posted this in the wrong place. Topics such as this should go here (http://discuss.pittsburghlive.com/viewforum.php?f=2).

Isn't WR one of the hardest positions to become accustom to from the College to NFL level? Everyone struggles the first year to two years. Unless your a freak like Randy Moss. Remember Holmes two years ago couldn't beat out Ced. He came on later in the year once he had been in the system for an extended amount of time. This time next year he will be fine.

it is the toughest position for a rookie. its so funny to me, 3 preseason games and already compared to fred gibson.

Well, Gibson went bye-bye after his fourth pre-season game. No shot of that with big Limas, though. In time, that kid is going to be a good one. Look forward to him contributing to the red zone package right off the bat.

Perhaps we can let Sweed play out his rookie season before we throw him out with the trash. We have folks overlooking/making excuses for Nate Washington dropping passes for over three years and some want to crucify a rookie.

Sometimes you guys are unbelieveable.

I think part of the problem might lie with the QB. As I recall Lefty had problems at Jax with receivers dropping the ball on him. It looks like he throws a 'hard' ball ... much harder than Ben or Batch and it might be a problem with the receivers adjusting to that. He also seems to get rid of the ball much quicker than Ben so it gets on the receivers faster. Not that any of that is an excuse. If you hope to be an NFL receiver you better be able to catch.

You may be onto something there. Analysts have hypothesized that he does so to offset for the incredibly slow wind up. One thing you have to say about Lefty, he's in the best shape of his entire NFL career, which is a huge plus for us.
