I know he is getting torn apart right now..but I don't think the "I just decked my own player will happen again, at least for awhile. I don't agree with him trawling Hines, but you gotta admire the tenacity he has brought to the table. He just needs to use his head a little. I still believe this guy will be a solid S in this league!!!!

I like him too. Alot really. When he was first drafted I was thinking he would be the next Donnie Shell. Hopefully, he can get it all together and keep it together.

Like him or not the Steelers are going to need him this year to play his natural position of SS; I just don't see Polamalu playing more than 10 games this year.

I think his best position is probably SS, and he has been playing out of position due to need purposes, but this kid has got to get his mind straight. These instances at practice have to come to a stop. Knowing when and where to be a physical player is an important attribute to have on the football field, let alone during practice with your own teammates that he seems to lay out on a weekly basis. Come on AS, getting it together, harness it, and you could be great!

I am a still a little suspect of his mindset, maturity ect.
But have to agree with Pappy about keeping him.

If the Steelers D did not have Troy in '05 they do not, I repeat, do not go to the Super Bowl.

no doubt. troy when healthy is the best safety in the game, but its rare for him to be healthy. its very frusterating

I hope Smith becomes an All Pro because that is only better for the Steelers, but I won't hold my breath. I think we will continue to see Anthony Smith the enigma who teases us with the possibilities but ultimately will never be more than a 5th DB and special teams headhunter.

Lots of good points here..
i am an AS fan- i really hope he figures it out... because the potential is great.
I do think he has the athletic ability to play FS- but not the cerebral nature required to play it in the NFL. (or at least in the Steelers scheme)
He is- as tomlin put it- a "run and hit" type player. figure out the responsibility - run to the point- hit the target.
I agree, his more natural position in the NFL is SS, and i am looking forward to see how he plays in that role, during these next pre-season games.
I also agree that Troy is too injury prone- and almost certain to miss 4-6 games. I also think that, ultimately Polamalu will end up retiring from football, relatively early in his career, due to the combined affects of these injuries. (this could happen within 2-4 years) Or, maybe as pointed out on another thread- the team lets him go- due to salary cap / value issues regarding a 10 games a year player.
Either way- AS could be an important player for the steelers- when he begins to understand his responsibilities within this scheme.
