Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Boof Bonser had his name legally changed to Boof

:wft Did the guy get caught with the family pet growing up :?:

The question posed: what, to you, is the oddest nickname of an individual player or a team in all of sports?

Let's get 'em out there and have a good

There was this guy that played for Penn State once named Anthony Morelli. Some folks called him "The Quarterback". That was very odd if you ever had seen him play.

Cleveland Browns. Why would anyone want to name a team after a poo stain?

The Macon (I think single A) minor league club changed their team's name to the whoopie for a short time.

The Macon whoopie.

Team: Minor league hockey team from Macon, Georgia. Their mascot is a whooping crane. The name of the team is the Macon Whoopee. It must be Chuck Woolery's favorite team.

Individual: Pitcher Dennis Boyd (played for Boston, Montreal, and Texas). Never heard of him? Perhaps you know him better by his nickname. I still have no idea what the nickname is supposed to mean, though.

Since proudpittsburgher beat me to Macon Whoopee, I'll have to go with a different team, this time on the college level.

The UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs

Back in my baseball and football days "they" called me...

One Step

Because once I get a step on ya...game over!

Actually...no...I'm lying.

I never had a cool nickname....well some of my "friends"
called me Elvis (my scweet gold nugget watch)
or LeRoy (my sweet generic shoes called Le Roi)

I need to go now...lots of bad childhood memories.

Well those white college ball caps that had the word "COCK" written in red letters made their name impossible to take notice.

Well a buddy of mine used to live in Columbia for a time and he would go to USC games and people down there would have bumper stickers on their cars and t-shirts on with the expression "Nobody can lick our 'C*cks."

Disturbing, but my friend says it's true. :wft

No offense to the Trojan Nation, D, but those good-ole-boys in S. Carolina get a little feisty...and they have guns

I'll take your comment on USC under advisement for future reference :Bow

BTW, since you're in GB, UWGB is known as the Phoenix. What gives with them? Having the name of a warm weather place hasn't ever worked to keep GB warm in the winter. :2c

OTOH, I don't know too many Vikings in Cleveland, even though that's the Cleveland State nickname.

 They have guns! Hey, just remember, the center of the universe for the Crips and the Bloods, among other gangs, is L.A. How many of them do you think are Trojans fans?

I'm not sure why UWGB has a mythical beast as its mascot. But I think it's safe to say there were more Vikings in Cleveland than Phoenix in GB. :o

Oh yeah! I forgot that the Crips and Bloods are paid security for the USC campus :wft :Bow

On the second point, you may we'll be correct...but not by much. I am looking forward to Cleveland State's run to the Dance next year. The last time they danced, I was a freshman.
