I would just like to give a warm, Planet Steelers welcome to the sudden influx of traffic and membership to the Planet Steelers Forum (i.e. Message Board) mostly due to the recent transpiring that has occurred at SteelersFever. SteelersFever has been around a long time and is one of the first fan-based Pittsburgh Steelers sites I’ve visited. It’s unfortunate that these events have occurred and I wish SteelersFever the best. With that being said, I am ecstatic about the new memberships and we are glad to have you.

Planet Steelers has seen an incredible amount of growth the past couple of years (basically 2 years old) and this has continued for quite some time and I don’t see Planet Steelers slowing down.

I must say that I am lucky to have such a great membership base. The discussions, news updates, etc posted by our members is unmatched in my honest opinion. I can’t tell you the last time I visited a site other than PlanetSteelers.com for the most thorough and up to date Pittsburgh Steelers news. This includes Fox Sports, ESPN, SI.com, etc. Planet Steelers is just unmatched for the die hard Steelers Fan.

Don’t forget to check out the other areas of Planet Steelers including our:

Forum and Message Board

Note: You can comment on the Steelers blogs, Photos / Highlights, etc by using your Planet Steelers message board username and password. All password protected areas of this site will required your Planet Steelers message board credentials. This makes it easy as you only have to remember one password!

The Steelers have officially placed wide receiver Limas Sweed on Injured Reserved (IR) after suffering an Achilles injury. The injury resulted in surgery; essentially ending his year before it ever began.

This is bad news for the Steelers and Sweed. Sweed had the perfect opportunity to fill departed Santonio Holmes shoes. Sweed has gone through self inflicted tough times in his short career with the Steelers, having high expectations as a 2nd round pick from Texas.

With the injury, Sweed will enter the final year of his contract next season. That’s assuming the Steelers decide to keep Sweed.

Earlier in the off season, the Steelers franchised the kicker for 2.8 million.

Reed has had a few off the field incidences and has struggled in kickoffs which has brought Reed criticism from the Steelers faithful.

However, Reed has been a clutch field goal kicker at Heinz Field which is widely considered the most difficult field in the NFL to kick at with its sloppy winter field conditions and the swirling winds.

According to reports Limas Sweed was injured during minicamp practice. Initial reports indicate that Sweed injured his Achilles tendon. An examination is scheduled but if Sweed tore his Achilles tendon then he is facing a 12 month rehab process. This will also be Sweed’s last chance as a Steeler.

Sweed is an athletic WR with all the measurables that you would ever want but has been a disappointment so far. Like most Steeler fans, I was hoping Sweed could be our #1 receiver of the future. He’s a mismatch waiting to happen due to his size and ability to get open. However, he has struggled with concentrating on catching the ball. With the loss of Holmes, the Steelers need Sweed to be the player we all know he can be. Let’s hope his injury is minor.

Hines Ward has never shied away from speaking his mind and this time was no different. The Steelers’ Ward is a co-captain, and all-time leading receiver for the organization. Ward chimed in on the Roethlisberger situation today, the first of the mandatory 3-day training camp by remarking:

Wide receiver Hines Ward says quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s six-game suspension is disappointing but justified and threatens to leave the Pittsburgh Steelers in a precarious position when the season begins.

There is nothing wrong with Ward’s comments; He is simply speaking the truth. In fact, this isn’t the first time Ward has been critical of Roethlisberger. Recall last year when Ward called out Roethlisberger for not playing against the Baltimore Ravens due to an injury. The season was on the line and the Steelers couldn’t afford to lose any more games. Ward was critical of Roethlisberger and thought he could have played despite the injury. Dennis Dixon was the replacement during that game and while Dixon performed well, his inexperience showed by throwing an interception in overtime to lose the game

Outside the lines interviews former Steelers players Najeh Davenport and Mike Logan regarding Roethlisberger and the story behind his antics, leadership, work ethic and bodyguards.

Davenport reports on Roethlisberger’s bodyguards in addition to an anonymous witness that recalls Roethlisberger hiring bodyguards after an incident in which a gun was pointed at his head.

Logan, whom now is a local Pittsburgh Sports Report recalls a very sticky situation and locker room divide between Roethlisberger and about 60% of the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room. The incident ended with Joey Porter calling out Roethlisberger about his work ethic indicating that he was the last one too practice and the first one to leave.
