Annual BTSC “Get To Know Each Other” Thread!

Bumped to front page. It's one of our favorite times of the offseason when this thread rolls back around. -barnerburner

How this works:

Basically, you tell all of us here as much about yourself as you feel comfortable doing on the intrawebs. (Read: Don't put your actual address, social security number, yadda yadda yadda.)

I'll start the festivities...

I am Spike.

34 years old

I'm a Gemini

I live in the Great NorthWET. Yeah, Seahawks country...Lemme tell ya, that invokes some interesting conversations at my favorite bar when anyone finds out I'm a Steeler fan.

I have two awesome kids. One is 3 and my youngest turned 1 a little over 2 months ago.

I do ironwork construction and am a maintenance millwright.

I've been working with big pieces of metal or hazardous chemicals for 10 years.

I'm pretty much covered in tattoos.

I enjoy playing Magic: The Gathering and have no less than 15 decks that will beat yours any day of the week. I played in the Stronghold pre-release tournament. People in the know about Magic will understand how long I've been playing.

I am in a band. I play bass in said band, but I've only been playing bass for 2 years. I got my first 6 string guitar when I was 11, and 23 years later, I'm not much better than when I started...LOL.

I have been a die hard Steelers fan since 1995. And, no, before you ask, it was because they drafted Kordell Stewart, NOT because they went to the Super Bowl. He was supposed to be more electrifying than Neon Deion...Well, we all know how that worked out...But it made me a fan of the best team in all of sports.

Well, there you have it. Those are basically what everyone wants to know, if you think I left anything out, don't be afraid to say so and ask if you want to know.

Include a pic if you want.

Colbert Admits Offense Will Have Early Growing Pains

Not liking the sounds of what GM Kevin Colbert said to the Trib-Review, but sounds like the offense is going to have some growing pains, at least early on in 2012.

There’s a new offense in town, and training camp may or may not be enough to get it humming. The Tribune-Review caught up with general manager Kevin Colbert at the end of offseason practices, and he weighed in on the new offense and the situation at left tackle. … [Q:] From what you observed during offseason practices, did players make good progress as far as picking up the new offense? Kevin Colbert: I’m not listening to what’s being said intimately after a play. There’s not a lot of physical errors I guess is the best way to say it: new offense, people learning about the offense and coaches learning about people, I think there will be some mistakes. I think that’s just part of the growing process.”

If you have been following along here all spring and summer you certainly are well aware of the hard work that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Ziggy Hood is putting in this off-season. Hood has undergone a tremendous transformation working out at Outer Limits Sports Performance under the watchful eye of trainer Bill Nichol. The last report that we got from Nichol was that Hood had dropped his body fat from 24% down to 18% and that he had turned 18 pounds of fat into 20 pounds of muscle. That was after just phase 1.

We had Bill on the podcast shortly after a few of the training videos of Hood Read more [...]

When the Steelers signed quarterbacks Troy Smith earlier this offseason, they were filling a position of need since all three of Ben Roethlisberger’s backups from last year were free agents. Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch are back in Pittsburgh, though, and that left Smith without a chair when the music stopped on Monday. Or, to…

Steelers Cut QB Troy Smith

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday that they cut quarterback Troy Smith from their roster.

The move isn’t a surprise, as it was expected that Ben Roethlisberger would be the starter with Byron Leftwich backing him up and Charlie Batch assuming the third-string duties.

Smith signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers on Jan. 20. Prior to joining the Steelers, Smith spent time with the Omaha Nighthawks (2011) of the United Football League, the San Francisco 49ers (2010) and the Baltimore Ravens (2007-2009).

A five-year NFL veteran, Smith has played in 20 NFL games with eight career starts. He was originally drafted by the Ravens in the fifth round (174th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.
