Steelers Sign Tight End Leonard Pope

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Steelers made their first free agent move of the year, signing tight end Leonard Pope.

Pope played under new Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley in both Arizona and Kansas City. Pope — 6-foot-8, 260 pounds — is a six-year NFL veteran with 102 catches for 973 yards and nine touchdowns on his resume.

Pope played two seasons with Haley as his offensive coordinator in Arizona. He spent the last three seasons with Haley as his head coach in Kansas City.

Pope is likely to compete for the No. 2 tight end spot with Weslye Saunders, who is suspended for the first four games of 2012 for a substance abuse violation. David Johnson is the only other tight end on the roster and has spent more time as a blocking back in the backfield than as a traditional tight end.

Report: Steelers Sign Jerricho Cotchery to a two year deal

The Steelers have kept one of their own in bringing back Jerricho Cotchery.  Rotoworld is reporting that the Steelers have re-signed Cotchery to a two year deal.  This is good news for the Steelers.
The Steelers still have to worry but very little about Mike Wallace’s situation.  If Wallace were to leave the Steelers would still have 3 good receivers left on the squad.  Also with Emmanuel Sanders’ injury history it is good to have Cotchery for depth.  His veteran pressence in the locker room will help keep these young receivers grounded.
Cotchery had other offers.  He visited with the Rams and the Chiefs.  The Jets also showed interest in bringing him back to the team.  For him to come back as the fourth receiver when he could have gotten more playing time in these other places shows what kind of place Pittsburgh is.  These guys know what they mean when they play here.  That really sticks out.

A closer look at the new Nike Steelers uniforms

Last Week, Nike introduced the world to their new NFL uniforms for all 32 teams. While some, like the Seahawks underwent huge changes the Steelers of course stayed true to their history and tradition. While the uniforms will look basically the same, the craftsmanship and material is state of the art.
On the Nike official website, they provide an in depth look at all the NFL teams uniforms. Of course for us though, we’ll focus on the Steelers.  We’ve included the pictures below and you can use the link referenced in this article to get more information on how they were developed and also get .pdf files on each piece of the uniform.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have chosen to take full innovation minus Flywire technology in the neckline in order to stay true to their design aesthetic. While the Steelers look will stay true to years past, the new Nike Elite 51 Uniform was designed and engineered from the inside out, focusing on creating a system where the baselayer, padding, jer...
