Hines Ward wasn’t given a chance to take a pay cut

In the latter years of his career in Pittsburgh, running back Jerome Bettis willingly took less money in order to remain with the Steelers.  Receiver Hines Ward would have done the same thing, if asked. He wasn’t asked. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Steelers didn’t offer to keep Ward at a…

Smith, Farrior, Ward and Kemo officially released by the Steelers

*** Discuss this article and more at our Pittsburgh Steelers forum ***

The Steelers made it official yesterday releasing James Farrior, Hines Ward, Aaron Smith and Chris Kemoeatu.  The four veterans are free to go and negotiate with other teams.  Chris Kemoeatu has already started.  His agent has been in contact with three teams.
Aaron Smith is the only one expected to retire.  Hines Ward and Farrior are at least going to make an effort to sign with other teams.  There is a good chance that Farrior will only play for a contender or will retire.  Ward looks to be the only one who will force the issue to play just to play.
Good luck to all these guys.  They were very helpful in the Steelers run to their last 2 Super Bowls.

I feel like today is a good day to put out free agent fire before it gets started, just like I did at this same time last year with Tiki Barber. This year it is another former New York Giants running back that will have at least half of Steeler Nation frothing at the mouth after he was released today by the Super Bowl champions. Jacobs will turn 30 years of age in July and his best years are far behind him. Not only is that an issue with Pittsburgh being a possible landing spot for him, but he has character issues as well. He is not regarded as a team player and loses his cool way too much for Read more [...]

Cindrich thinks Farrior will be the next Steeler to go

During Thursday’s PFT Live, which included the 2012 Steelers “to-do” list (the whole show is available in the box in the right rail), I suggested that the Steelers continue their youth movement, continuing with linebacker James Farrior. Farrior’s agent believes that’s precisely what will happen. “It’s not a done deal, but the percentages just aren’t…

Why Larry Foote wasn’t/won’t be Cut

When James Farrior was given his walking papers many fans believed fellow inside linebacker Larry Foote may be next. However, over a week later and Foote remains a Steeler and looks to be safe heading towards the 2012 season. During the 2011 season Foote served as the number one back-up to inside li Continue
