Report: Bruce Arians May Not Return As Steelers Offensive Coordinator In 2012

Gerry Dulac is reporting tonight that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians might not return in 2012. Dulac reports that it is unclear if Arians is retiring or is just not having his contract renewed.

Arians has been the Steelers offensive coordinator since 2007 and was the Steelers wide receivers coach from 2004–2006. Steelers Sign 10 To Reserve/Future Contracts

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – While the Pittsburgh Steelers saw their season end a few weeks earlier than they would have liked, they are already preparing for next year.

On Wednesday, the team signed 10 players to reserve/future contract for their 2012 offseason roster.

According to a press release from the team, five of the 10 players were on the 2011 practice squad.

Those players include: OG John Malecki, TE Jamie McCoy, OT Chris Scott, OT Trevis Turner and DT Corbin Bryant.

In addition to those five, the team also signed QB Jerrod Johnson, defensive lineman Mike Blanc, DT Kade Weston, CB Marshall McFadden and DB Antonio Smith.

Fans will also be happy to know that the team plans on adding 3,000 seats to Heinz Field for the 2013 season.

Those seats will be in the open end of the stadium where temporary seating was installed for the Winter Classic game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Steelers Running Backs Coach Kirby Wilson Remains Hospitalized, Family Releases Statement

The Steelers released a statement on running backs coach Kirby Wilson, who was badly burned in a house fire before Pittsburgh’s 29-23 (OT) loss at Denver in the Wild Card round of the AFC Playoffs.

Wilson remains in the hospital, and the injury will require further surgical procedures in the future.

The statement reads:

Mr. Kirby Wilson remains in critical condition in the Trauma Burn Center at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. In addition to burns sustained over 45 percent of his body, he has suffered a smoke inhalation injury and will require multiple operative procedures in the future.

The Steelers web site also added:

The 50-year-old Wilson, in his fifth season with the Steelers is an original member of Mike Tomlin’s inaugural coaching staff.

Wilson is from Los Angeles, and he played running back and wide receiver at Illinois before playing briefly in the Canadian Football League. He had coached running backs with four different NFL teams – New England, Washington, Arizona and Tampa Bay – before coming to the Steelers when Tomlin hired him in 2007.

Wilson is known by all who work for the Steelers as a man with a ready smile and a pleasant demeanor regardless of the circumstances. As a coach, he is known to his players as a tireless worker and a high-energy guy who is demanding yet fair.

Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall Has Had ACL Surgery On Right Knee

Ed Bouchette reported today on 93.7 The Fan that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall has had his surgery now on the torn ACL in his right knee. Mendenhall injured the knee on the final play of the first quarter in the week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland on a 5 yard run to the right side.

Reportedly they were waiting on the swelling to go down on the knee before Mendenhall had his surgery, as expected. The hope is that Mendenhall will be ready for action when the Steelers report to Latrobe for their 2012 training camp. The injury can however take up to 9 months Read more […]
