On The Steelers: Hoke’s career might be over

It is against their nature that defensive linemen will discuss holes because their job is to prevent them. As much as they wanted to, they could neither prevent the hole in their line and meeting room Tuesday nor stop talking about the reason for it, teammate Chris Hoke.

Steelers Playoff Scenarios

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — With four games left in the regular season, the Steelers (9-3) could find themselves in a number of positions heading into the playoffs.

What’s certain is achieving their overall goal of home field advantage throughout the playoffs won’t come without some help.

As it stands right now, Pittsburgh needs to win out and see the Baltimore Ravens lose one of its remaining four games. The Ravens (9-3) play Indianapolis, Cleveland, San Diego and Cincinnati to end the season. They own the head-to-head tiebreaker with Pittsburgh with two regular season wins.

If the Steelers were to win the AFC North they’d battle with New England and Houston for seeding. Both have 9-3 records — identical to Pittsburgh — and are in position to win their division. The Steelers own the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Patriots but not the Texans.

If Pittsburgh is unable to win the AFC North it will have one of two wildcard spots and almost surely will play all of its playoff games on the road. At this point, it seems the Steelers would own the No. 5 seed in the AFC.

If the playoffs started today, the Steelers would travel to Denver (7-5) for the first round of the playoffs.
